AIS Technology has completed the installation of Environmental Monitoring equipment at three heritage sites for Heritage Malta.

Environmental monitoring equipment is installed at Tarxien Temples, Hagar Qim Temples and Mnajdra Temples. Sensors are connected to data loggers, which record and transmit the data to a central software application. The equipment allows Heritage Malta personnel to continuously monitor the environmental conditions across these culturally important sites.

A diverse range of sensors are installed, collecting environmental data for:

  • Air Quality
  • Barometric Pressure
  • Global Solar Radiation
  • Humidity
  • Rainfall
  • Soil Moisture
  • Leaf Wetness
  • Temperature
  • Wind speed & direction

The sensors transmit data to data loggers through a combination of wired and wireless connections. The flexible communication technology allows Heritage Malta to collect data from several locations whilst preserving the site. Wireless sensors using LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) communication provide reliable and battery-powered connectivity. IoT-wireless sensors are extremely useful in locations that cannot be reached through traditional cabled connections. Solar panels and batteries provide autonomy in the event of unexpected power loss. Furthermore, data loggers are fitted with 4G routers to ensure connectivity at remote locations.

All the environmental data collected from each site is stored in a central software application. The software application is provided by AIS Technology. The software allows Heritage Malta’s scientists and specialists to view and analyse all data in real-time. The software also generates alarm notifications in the event of communication issues or irregular data. All data is visible in through graphical or tabular format, with the added flexibility of exporting to a wide range of formats.

The environmental monitoring equipment aids Heritage Malta’s continuous efforts to understand and preserve the natural environment around these sites. Tarxien Temples, Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples are amongst the oldest free-standing structures on Earth. They are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites.

Heritage Malta’s staff perform valuable efforts to preserve these heritage sites for the benefit of present and future generations. The Environmental Monitoring systems installed are a key tool to achieve this goal.

What is access control? Access control can be defined as a physical security solution to protect your premises against unauthorised access. Such solutions can be implemented on doors, locks, turnstiles and gates as well as vehicle barriers.

A typical installation consists of a networked controller managing several door access control readers. Web-based management software is included, handling user enrolment, security groups, credentials and access rights. Door Access Control solutions can be integrated with CCTV, fire alarm and intruder alarm systems, providing full overview and control over the security estate.  and can automatically open doors or gates in case of emergencies. Leading access control solutions include additional benefits, with functionality including Active Directory integration, APIs, Visitor Management Solutions, Card design and printing. These features are useful for IT, administration, reception and HR staff.

Non-contact Time & Attendance for the new COVID-19 Workplace

Offices and businesses around the world are welcoming back employees to a new working environment. COVID-19 has had a profound effect on the way we work. For those companies who cannot implement work-from-home systems, ensuring a safe and healthy workplace is vital. Masks, social distancing and increased cleaning and disinfecting are some of the new requirements of a safe workplace. Technology also plays a role in fighting the spread of the virus.

As biometric technology has improved, many organisations have adopted fingerprint or facial recognition hardware as part of their Time & Attendance solution. Biometric time and attendance systems reduce payroll fraud by eliminating “buddy punching” – the practice of employees checking in for each other.

Mobile app and QR/Barcode technology can be easily integrated into an access control system, working seamlessly with other forms of user identification. Advances in the electronic security sector means that companies now have more options than ever when it comes to building their access control solution. QR codes technology and Mobile app via NFC or Bluetooth join the traditional forms of user identification such as card/PIN/biometric technologies.

Mobile Access

Mobile Access allows employees to use their smartphone or tablet as access control credentials, thereby opening doors, gates, turnstiles and barriers through Bluetooth or NFC technology. Mobile Access delivers increased user convenience and security, whilst providing a seamless & secure working environment. Mobile Access works with a vast range of compatible devices on iOs as well as Android.

Mobile access can be used in parallel with other form of identification technologies, whilst offering a greater level of security. Mobile Access is built on a highly secure and reliable cloud platform, ensuring connectivity and and data integrity at all times. Mobile Access is a convenient, secure and innovative access control solution for any form of commercial, office or high-end residential environment.

QR code for Visitor Management

Access Control systems with QR code technology offer a cost-effective and reliable solution to the management of visitors within an office or facility. QR code technology can be easily integrated with RFID or PIN code readers to form a complete security solution. QR code readers are traditionally found integrated into entrance control hardware such as turnstiles, sliding or speed gates, as a means of managing visitors on a day-to-day basis. Deploying QR code readers is easy. Scanning a QR code grants access to pre-defined areas within an office. QR access control is an effective means of increasing security as well as streamlining operations.

The system can be managed entirely by a receptionist through the Visitors Management module of an Access Control system. QR codes can be generated and printed directly via the software and sent to a user's mobile phone via email. Tickets can be printed with a thermal printer and can be carried around by visitors throughout their stay within a facility. Alternatively, QR codes can be sent directly to a mobile phone, thus reducing carbon footprint.

Businesses are starting to realise the positive effects of a comfortable working environment on employee wellbeing. A growing body of research has shown that optimising the comfort conditions in a place of work leads to a positive impact on people’s physical and psychological health.

Building Research Establishment (BRE) has published research showing that people in Europe spend around 90 per cent of their time indoors. Poor indoor air quality can reduce employee productivity through symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, aches and pains, eye and throat problems and skin irritation. It can also exacerbate seasonal affective disorder (SAD), stress, depression, backache
and other cardiovascular ailments.

Business owners and tenants would do well to tackle the issue of poor indoor air quality by implementing systems which ensure that work conditions are optimised at all times of the working day. A Building Energy Management System (BEMS) plays a significant role in enhancing occupational wellbeing by creating an environment where air quality and general comfort conditions are fully optimised. A BEMS will also properly control of lighting within the workplace to ensure that people work in properly illuminated conditions at all times. Combining natural lighting with a DALI control system allows a workplace to achieve the optimal balance of cost efficiency and employee wellbeing.

Spektrum, the Workforce Management application from AIS Software, now includes a new module called Scheduling and Rostering. Spektrum Scheduling and Rostering module is the essential tool for companies whose employees work with a range of shifts, schedules and rosters. Spektrum helps you create and manage flexible work schedules according to your business needs. The interface is web-based, allowing managers and employees to view schedules, see upcoming rosters and access to the data from anywhere.

Internet of Things AIS

System integrators are key players in the push towards the Internet of Things (IoT). IoT companies such as AIS Technology must have extensive know-how into many systems affecting various departments. Hardware and software integration are key factors for any company operating in the Internet of Things space.

System Integrators and the Internet of Things

The age of the Internet of Things (IoT) is upon us. The Internet of Things (IoT) and the system integrator play a vital role in this transition into a new era. The Internet of Things looks to redefine what traditional systems integrators have done for years and decades. Automation solutions providers are sceptical of the revolutionary claims pushed by IoT advocates. Many believe that the Internet of Things can transform the industrial market and open up opportunities to system integrators and end users alike. There are many reasons why an established system integrator is key to an IoT project:

The IoT is complex. System integrators specialise in complex.

An IoT project consists of a number of inter-linked facets, such as sensors, gateways, servers, platforms and analytics. System integrators know that a successful IoT project depends on connecting systems from different vendors together. Compatibility between systems is vital, and system integrators such as AIS have the experience of making the complex simple. Linking sub-systems together via real-time hardware and software interfaces is key to an IoT project.

The IoT affects both IT and Operations. System integrators already work with both.

A true Internet of Things project will interface with information systems handled by numerous departments within a business. Real-time information sharing is a must to achieve connected business intelligence. Systems integrators are the link between Operations and IT within a business, delivering insight that breaks down any internal barriers.

Years of Experience and Knowhow.

System integrators with years of experience have in-house capabilities to bring an IoT project to fruition. An IoT solution is critical to any business, thus working with an established company will minimise risks and delays. System integrators also know that IoT security must be factored in at the design stage to ensure adherence to GDPR regulations and reduce threats.

AIS is well positioned to deliver Internet of Things solutions to organisations looking to transform their business. From smart cities, workplace analytics, Industrial IoT and smart healthcare, AIS have the software and hardware expertise to deliver an IoT application of any size or scope.
